Derrick graduated from The Centre for Nursing Studies in 2003 with a Bachelor of Nursing (BN) degree and completed his Master of Nursing at Dalhousie University in 2013. After graduating with his BN he ventured to the Northwest Territories where he worked for 3 years in the Emergency Department at Inuvik Regional Hospital as well as doing locums in smaller isolated communities and as a Medivac nurse. From there he moved to Halifax and spent the next 8 years working at the Halifax Infirmary Emergency Department. Derrick also taught in the PN program at Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC) for 4 years teaching lecture, labs and in the clinical setting.
Derrick returned to Newfoundland in 2014, working for Eastern Health at the Health Sciences Center as an Emergency Room Nurse and as a Nurse Educator at the Centre for Nursing Studies, teaching classroom material as well as lab and in clinical's.
Derrick now resides in St. John’s Newfoundland where he works as a Nurse Practitioner in the Emergency department.
